Have a question to ask?

Whether you're an existing supporter or interested in the work of ActionAid, here's a list of our most frequently asked questions about donating, volunteering, and our work supporting women and girls around the world.

Before getting in touch, please check to see if your enquiry is covered below.

How does the lottery work?

You will receive a 6-digit lottery number when you enter. Every Friday you will be entered into the draw. The winning numbers are chosen at random.

Tickets for the Weekly Lottery are £1 per ticket. You can have up to three chances per draw, giving you even more chances to win one of our fantastic prizes.

Prizes are issued and posted to the winner directly; there is no need to claim.

How do I sign up?

You can enter our lottery through our play now page.

Once you’ve registered, we'll send your welcome pack containing your unique 6-digit lottery number, your payment confirmation and the date of your first draw.

You can sign up by following the three simple steps on our webpage. We are unable to take sign-ups over the phone, but if you would like to sign up offline, we can send you a form. To request a form, please contact our team by calling 0370 330 0218 or email info@unitylottery.co.uk.

What are the maximum amount of entries I can have?

The maximum amount of lottery entries you can have per week is 6.

Can I choose my own lottery numbers?

No. Every entry into the draw is automatically allocated a unique lottery number. The odds of winning are fair and equal for every number. Once a number is allocated to a player it cannot be allocated again to another player.

Why is the minimum Direct Debit amount £4.34?

The monthly cost breakdown of £4.34 for playing the lottery is based on paying £1 per week over a 52 week year. Direct debits are only collected once monthly. Sometimes there will be five weeks in a month and the additional £0.34p per entry is to build up credit to cover the fifth week on these five-week months.

How can I pay for the Lottery?

Players can pay for their lottery entry with either debit card, by setting up a direct debit, or via cheque. We can no longer accept standing order payments.

What prizes can I win?

Every week, all our lottery players have the chance to win any of these prizes:

1st prize: £25,000

2nd prize: £1,000

3rd prize: £25

4th Prize: 5 entries in our next draw!

What are the odds of winning a prize?

The odds of winning one of the 4 prizes on offer are as follows:

6 digit match (£25,000) = 1 in 1,000,000

5 digit match (£1,000) = 1 in 18,518

4 digit match (£25) = 1 in 823

3 digit match (5 Prize Entries) = 1 in 69

Overall, the odds of winning one of the prizes on offer is 1 in 63.

How can ActionAid UK offer these prizes?

The prizes for our Weekly Lottery are covered by the Unity prize pot. Different charities run their lottery with Unity, and all of our supporters contribute to the prize pot by entering. Everyone has an equal chance of winning. That’s why we can offer a £25,000 jackpot and smaller prizes.

How can I cancel my lottery entry?

Lottery membership can be cancelled at any time by notifying Unity Lottery in writing, to:

If you match 4 digits or more, you will be sent your winnings automatically, either directly into your bank (if playing by Direct Debit), or via a cheque sent in the post.

If you match 3 digits you will be sent an email to confirm your win and your temporary 5 prize entry lottery numbers for the following week's draw.
